the keys are ours
Our first home
The ongoing story of turning our first house into somewhere that feels unmistakably ours.

where it started
A place of our own
We bought our first home in North Yorkshire in 2026: a very grown-up decision followed immediately by paint charts, Pinterest boards and strong opinions about lamps.
It isn’t a dramatic overnight transformation. This page is for the slower version — learning what the house needs, choosing things we genuinely love and letting every room come together in its own time.
Expect colour, pattern, British country charm, the occasional questionable DIY decision and two dogs appearing in almost every photograph.
the house rules, according to me
Colour is a neutral
Cream has its place, but so do muddy greens, dusty blues, warm pinks and the occasional yellow wall.
Pattern is encouraged
Florals, stripes and prints are all welcome. Matching perfectly is much less important than loving it.
No big light
A house can never have too many lamps. This is both a decorating opinion and a deeply held belief.

What we’re working on now
- Choosing the next room to tackle
- Collecting fabrics, paint colours and ideas
- Finding pieces worth keeping for years
- Remembering that not everything needs doing at once
a home is never really finished
Come back and see what changed
I’ll keep adding photographs, decisions and little before-and-afters as the house slowly becomes ours.
